Hello! If you’re reading this email, you might remember a little show called Con Man. Or some of you probably remember another little show called Retro Replay. Heck, some of you probably know what Mule Tickels is (that’s a deep cut)! We’re awfully proud of those accomplishments and for the last several yeasrs we’ve been growing Couch Soup, an evolution, pivot, culmination, hail mary of an idea that uses everything we’ve learned about community and content creation.
What did we learn?
Well, we learned a lot of things, like making content people love is hard work, and at any given moment, the thing you worked hard on for years can go away because of circumstances beyond your control. But we also learned that you are a community of awesome, down-to-earth people who love to nerd out together.
This awesome community is why we built Couch Soup - a place for all of us. And even better, it’s also a platform for those who have a passion for creating and writing content about the things they love. Those who create content have ownership in Couch Soup. Making it truly independent and contributor-owned. Not some corporate site owned by billionaires and boards.
We want to be a channel that you will actually want to read and watch. We hope to give you a publication and substack that exists not just as a name that occasionally pops up in your various social media feeds, but as a daily destination because it feels like hanging out with your friends at Comic Con. Where traditional online platforms are full of vitriol and bots and pundits, CouchSoup can be a place for the rest of us. Is it going to take hard work? Sure. But it’s going to be fun to be around a community that supports what we do.

For those that aren’t yet. Here’s the quick pitch… Couch Soup is a contributor-owned pop-culture and gaming website and YouTube Channel (now on Substack!). We write about games, TV, movies, anime, comics, and any cool nerd shit that happens on the internet, because we believe that a good publication is one that reflects the genuine interests and obsessions of its writers. Content that is authentic and unfiltered.
